Goals

Goals

  • Get all A’s: I will put more time into studying this semester. I usually study the day of a test or quiz. I will study in more advance of the test or quiz.
  • Stay more focused: I will pay more attention during class. When I study, I will not use my phone.
  • Finish watching “Heartland” on Netflix: I have not been watching Netflix lately. Instead of watching T.V. in free time, I will watch Heartland.

The Synoptic Gospels

Matthew, Mark, and Luke have many similarities and differences. Because of their similarities, they are called the Synoptic Gospels. The Synoptic Gospels all have Jesus preforming many of the same miracles and parables. Another similarity is that Matthew, Mark, and Luke all talk about the calling of the first disciples. Also, 'Jesus goes before Pilate' is mentioned in all of the Synoptics. Although there are many similarities, there are also differences. The book of Luke provides more detail than Matthew and Mark provide. Jesus' birth is mentioned in Matthew and Luke, but not Mark. Luke provides greater detail of his birth than Matthew does. Matthew and Luke are set in the same general area, but Mark is set near the Sea of Galilee. These are just a few similarities and differences, but there are many more.

The Story of Creation

Once upon a time, there was a dark, formless Earth. This Earth was empty, except for a spirit hovering over it. God was dwelling there though. God made the Earth His. First, He made the day and night. Then, God created the sea, the sky, and the land. God thought “someday, I may have living creatures and humans on this Earth.” To prepare the Earth for his creations, he produced vegetation that would be eaten. God gave his world light. He put the sun in the sky for the day and the moon and stars in the sky for the night. With this light, we would be able to see. After the world was sustainable to live in, God made sea creatures first to rule the sea. The next day, God saw that the land needed someone to watch and rule over it. He made the animals the rulers over the land. God brought to life humans, and they were to rule over everything. God gave everything the command to be fruitful and multiply and to scatter and fill the earth. God saw that everything was good. This was the creation of the World.

God's Story and My Life

How does having a good understanding of the story of scripture impact daily life? Our life is like a story, and with every story there is someone telling the story. God is the story teller in our lives. The story of scripture is like a drama. We live and “act” out what happens in our everyday lives. We are the actors in the story God wrote. Knowing the story will help us fulfill our part in it. The story is still currently in action, and soon God will come home. But, this is not the end of the story. “It is just the end of the beginning.”(Unknown quote)

The Resurrection

God sent Jesus, his only son, to die for us. Jesus graciously gave up his life to save us from our sins. Jesus was whipped. He carried his own cross for his own death. Christ was crucified on the cross. They tore his clothes from him and spit on him. The crowd yelled and called him names. Jesus was hung on the cross, nails in his wrist. He had a crown made a thorns jammed into his head. On top of everything that had happened, they pierced his sides. His blood was clear, like water. Even after everything that he had been put through, Jesus forgave everyone. His last words were "Father, forgive them. They know not what they do." After Christ was dead, He was placed in a tomb. The guards rolled a large stone in front of the tomb, so no one could get in or out of it. Jesus had only stayed in the tomb for three days. He had risen from the tomb on that sunday, and came down for everyone to see. God's love for us is unbelievable, that He would sacrifice his son to fulfill his plan. God's plan will one day be fulfilled through us.
